Watercolor image depicts a pattern found on the qabbeh (chest panel) of this 1940’s malak dress (الملك ثوب) worn by women in Lifta and neighboring villages. Often chosen for special events such as weddings. This panel is distinct in its type of stitch called tahiri - originating in the towns of Bethlehem and Beit Jala. The design of multiple squares, with the center square is filled with a circular motif in the middle.
